Planning Ahead for a Full Summer of Fireside Events

Memorial Day Weekend has finally arrived! It’s the unofficial start to summer, which means that the next few months will be ideal for spending evenings with your friends and family around your firepit. This three-day weekend offers an ideal opportunity to plan ahead for your summer and make sure that you are well-prepared to make the most of your firepit. Here are three items you should put on your to-do list as the summer gets started:

1. Determine the right amounts and types of firewood to purchase.

It’s hard to determine the ideal order size for each individual customer, since firepit usage varies so widely. On average, Cutting Edge Firewood customers get two orders of firewood per season, but some firepit enthusiasts need as many as thirteen! As you plan ahead for your summer, start thinking about how much time you think you’ll be spending around the fire in the coming months. That way, you can determine how many orders you will need and start planning out your delivery schedule.

You may also want to take this weekend to start thinking about how you want to divide your orders between different types of firewood. Oak is the most popular kiln-dried firewood option for Cutting Edge Firewood customers, but some customers like to choose hickory--the kiln-dried firewood with the best aroma--for special occasions like Father’s Day and the 4th of July. For these events, you might also consider purchasing cooking firewood, which you and your guests can use to make memorable meals.

Similarly, you should plan ahead for events when you plan to spend an extra-long time around the fire. Kiln-dried oak has a moderately long burn time, but you can double it if you choose uncut rounds. The standard burn time for hickory is even longer than it is for oak, but if you still need more time around the fire, oversized hickory burns for twice as long, and uncut hickory rounds offer three times the burn time.

2. Decide where to store your firewood and set up your delivery service with the Cutting Edge Firewood Delivery Artisans.

With kiln dried firewood, you have several viable options for storage. As we discussed in an earlier post, the choice between indoor and outdoor storage depends on your needs. Either way, in order to preserve the integrity of the wood, your top priority should be to keep the wood away from moisture. If you plan to store it outside, make sure the wood has no direct contact with the ground and is well-protected from the elements. Similarly, if you’re keeping your kiln-dried firewood in your basement or garage, avoid any unnecessary exposure to water, which can lead to mold infestation or rotting.

Once you have decided where to store your firewood, you should set up your delivery service with Cutting Edge Firewood. Instead of forcing you to deal with the inconvenience of picking up your firewood from our showroom, we will deliver it straight to your home--even if you aren’t there to receive it. If you’re a first-time customer, you need to mark exactly where you want to stack it. However, with your first delivery, you may decide you want to be present so that you can direct them to the right place. The beginning of the summer is also a great time to put together interactive delivery images that show the Delivery Artisans exactly where and how to stack the firewood in the future. That way, you’ll always come home to firewood stacked to your exact specifications.

If this is your first summer with a firepit, you’re probably bursting with questions about how to start a fire, use different types of firewood, and generally make the most of your summertime fireside experiences. The Delivery Artisans at Cutting Edge Firewood can offer the insight you’re looking for, and they can even help you start your first fire. Our complimentary fire lighting service can also be helpful for experienced fire starters who need a quick refresher after a long winter way from the firepit.

Even if you’re a longtime enthusiast, it’s common for fire-related questions to come up--especially complicated questions without answers that you can easily find on the internet. Maybe you’re wondering which cooking firewood to choose for a highly specific recipe, or maybe you’re looking for creative ways to enjoy your outdoor firepit while also cutting down on your fuel emissions. The start of the summer season is a great time to get these types of questions answered, and the Delivery Artisans at Cutting Edge Firewood have the necessary expertise to help with your most complicated inquiries. You can also get answers to your questions by visiting our Showroom.
