History of Dunwoody, GA

Dunwoody is a northern Atlanta suburban city of DeKalb County with a population of 48,733 as of 2015. It was founded back in the 1830s, receiving its name from Major Charles Dunwody. Like many cities around Atlanta, Dunwoody had a railroad going through it, which residents and travelers used for transportation. Known as the Roswell Railroad, it remained operational for more than four decades. It wasn’t until 1921 when officials decided to shut down the railroad.

Even with the closure of the Roswell Railroad, however, Dunwoody remained a prosperous area in The Peach State. Specifically, it became a popular area for businesses. Homes and other residential properties were later developed in Dunwoody in the 1960s. Today, Dunwoody consists of multiple districts, including Perimeter Center, Tilly Mill, Georgetown, Winters Chapel, Dunwoody Village and Williamsburg. The city is also home to some of the Southeast’s most esteemed businesses, including The Atlanta Journal Constitution, AutoTrader, Macy’s, Walmart, iHealth Technologies and Peachford Hospital.

Why Your Dunwoody, GA Home Needs Firewood

Purchasing premium firewood for your Dunwoody home will open the doors to new opportunities for you and your family. When the temperature begins to drop, you can build fires in your fireplace to create a warm and comfortable environment inside your home. A fireplace is an invaluable feature that, unfortunately, is often overlooked by homeowners. According to a report by The Washington Times, approximately 61% of new homes constructed in the United States have a fireplace, and 36% of existing homes have a fireplace. But many homeowners never or rarely use their fireplace because they don’t want to deal with the hassle of trying to hunt down or harvest firewood. If this sounds familiar, you’ll be pleased to hear that Cutting Edge Firewood can deliver premium firewood straight to your Dunwoody home, allowing you to take advantage of your home’s fireplace during the winter.

You can also build fires outside your Dunwoody home using a fire pit or outdoor fireplace. Accessories such as these have become increasingly popular in recent years. Thanks to the relatively mild winters of Dunwood and the Greater Atlanta Area, you can enjoy your home’s outdoor living space throughout the year. During winter, though, building a fire in a fire pit or outdoor fireplace can provide just enough warmth to turn this space into a comfortable area.

Kiln-Dried Firewood

Fresh vs Air-Dried vs Kiln-Dried Firewood: What’s the Difference?

Firewood is typically categorized as fresh, air-dried or kiln-dried depending on the method used to dry it. Also known as green wood, fresh firewood isn’t dried at all. As such, it often has a moisture content of 100% or higher. Fresh firewood with a moisture content of 100% means that half of its total weight comes from water. And conventional wisdom should lead you to believe that wet wood such as this doesn’t burn efficiently or easily.

Air-dried firewood, on the other hand, is left outdoors — covered and off the ground — for up to a year so that it’s able to dry out naturally. Over time, moisture from within the wood will evaporate into the air, causing the wood’s moisture content to drop. Air-dried firewood typically has a moisture content of 15% to 20%. There’s also kiln-dried firewood, which has an even lower moisture content than air-dried firewood. Kiln-dried firewood, such as the type sold here at Cutting Edge Firewood, is dried in a pressurized vacuum chamber that extracts a substantial amount of moisture from it. It’s the driest type of firewood, thereby offering the brightest, hottest flames.

How to Keep Your Firewood Lit (The Easy Way)

When building a fire — whether it’s in a fireplace, fire pit or stove — you may discover that it burns out shortly after being lit. It’s frustrating when you’re forced to constantly toss matches into your fire to keep the wood lit. But the good news is that you can avoid this problem by choosing kiln-dried firewood. With an average moisture content of about 8% to 12%, kiln-dried firewood is very dry. This means it’s easier to light and less likely to burn out. Most fires burn out because the firewood is too wet. Even air-dried firewood may suffer from this problem. Kiln-dried firewood, however, contains the least amount of moisture, so this usually isn’t a problem.
